Traffic Tickets in Vaughan, Ontario
Vaughan is part of York Region, so a ticket issued here is heard at one of two regional courts — and a code printed on the ticket, not the city name, tells you which one.
Ontario’s Provincial Offences Act lets municipalities run their own provincial offences courts to handle matters like traffic tickets, bylaw infractions, and other non-criminal charges. The underlying Highway Traffic Act rules that define speeding, careless driving, and similar offences are identical across the province — but the local court location, mailing address, and payment process are set at the regional level here, so what applies in York Region won’t necessarily apply elsewhere in Ontario.
Two courts serve all of York Region
York Region, which includes Vaughan, runs provincial offences matters through two courts rather than a separate court for each municipality: the Newmarket court at 17150 Yonge Street (location code 4960) and the Richmond Hill court at 50 High Tech Road (location code 4961). Which one applies to your ticket depends on the location code on the notice, not simply on the fact that it was issued in Vaughan. Both courts are open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and are accessible by York Region Transit.
Finding the right court for your ticket
York Region's guidance is to look at the first four digits of the offence number on your ticket to identify the correct location code, then match it to the corresponding court. This matters for both in-person business and online payment, since paying at the wrong location's counter or selecting the wrong court online can complicate an otherwise simple payment.
Paying online
York Region states that paytickets.ca is the only accepted online payment platform for its Provincial Offences Courts. The total payable amount shown on the ticket can be paid there, by phone, in person, or by mail, after selecting the location that matches your ticket's location code.
