Traffic Tickets in Markham, Ontario
Like other York Region municipalities, Markham doesn't have its own dedicated provincial offences court — tickets here are shared across two regional courthouses.
Ontario’s Provincial Offences Act lets municipalities run their own provincial offences courts to handle matters like traffic tickets, bylaw infractions, and other non-criminal charges. The underlying Highway Traffic Act rules that define speeding, careless driving, and similar offences are identical across the province — but the local court location, mailing address, and payment process are set at the regional level here, so what applies in York Region won’t necessarily apply elsewhere in Ontario.
Markham shares York Region's two courts
York Region covers Markham along with Vaughan, Newmarket, Richmond Hill, Aurora, and Whitchurch-Stouffville, and runs provincial offences matters through two courthouses rather than a separate one for each municipality: Newmarket, at 17150 Yonge Street, and Richmond Hill, at 50 High Tech Road. According to York Region, the Newmarket court can be reached at 905-898-0425 or 1-877-331-3309.
Figuring out which court applies
Which of the two courts hears a Markham-issued ticket depends on the location code on the notice rather than the municipality name, so the fastest way to confirm the right courthouse is to check the offence number printed on the ticket itself rather than assuming based on where you live or were pulled over.
Paying a ticket
York Region lists paytickets.ca as the only accepted online payment platform for its provincial offences courts, alongside phone, in-person, and mail payment. In-person and phone payment methods listed for the Newmarket court include debit, Visa-debit, Mastercard-debit, most major credit cards (except American Express), cash, cheque, certified cheque, bank draft, money order, and pre-authorized payment forms.
