Ontario Speeding Fine Calculator
Enter how far over the posted limit you were driving to get an estimated fine range. This is an estimate for educational purposes only — it is not an official calculation and does not predict a court outcome.
Enter how far over the posted limit you were driving to get an estimated fine range. This tool is for drivers who already know their recorded speed (from the ticket itself) and want a general sense of where that speed lands on Ontario's fine scale — not for predicting the exact dollar figure a specific court or officer will apply. For the full explanation of how speeding offences and points work in Ontario, see our Speeding in Ontario guide.

How the estimate works
The calculator takes the speed-over-limit figure you enter and maps it to the same general fine and demerit-point bands described in our speeding offence guide: no points for 1-15 km/h over (fine only), rising through 3, 4, and 6 points as the amount over the limit increases, with 50 km/h or more over generally treated as a stunt-driving matter rather than ordinary speeding. It does not know whether your specific ticket was issued in a community safety zone or construction zone (where fines are generally increased), or whether it was an officer-issued or camera-issued ticket — both of which affect the real number on your actual ticket.
A worked example
A driver ticketed at 22 km/h over the posted limit falls in the 16-29 km/h band, which generally carries 3 demerit points, with the fine amount set by regulation for that speed range. The same 22-km/h-over reading in a posted community safety zone would generally carry a higher fine for the identical speed and point value, because the safety-zone designation increases the fine, not the points. This is why two tickets with the same recorded speed can show different dollar amounts — the location of the offence matters as much as the speed itself.
What this tool can't tell you
It can't confirm whether your specific location was a community safety zone or construction zone, whether your ticket was officer- or camera-issued, or the exact current fine schedule if it has recently changed. The most reliable number for your situation is always the amount printed on your actual ticket. See Community Safety Zones Explained for how zone designations affect the fine, separately from the speed itself.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this calculator account for community safety zones?
No, it estimates based on speed over the limit alone. A community safety zone or construction zone can increase the fine for the same recorded speed — check your ticket for zone-specific wording.
Does it tell me if I'll be charged with stunt driving instead?
It can flag that 50+ km/h over is generally in stunt-driving territory, but whether a specific stop was actually charged as stunt driving depends on the officer's assessment and the exact wording on your ticket. See our Stunt Driving page.
Is a camera-issued speeding ticket different from this estimate?
Camera-issued (photo radar) tickets generally carry a fine only, with no demerit points, unlike an officer-issued ticket at the same recorded speed. This calculator doesn't distinguish between the two.
