Traffic Tickets in Ottawa, Ontario
Ottawa runs its provincial offences ticketing through the city government itself, with a dedicated court office and its own online and phone payment channels.
Ontario’s Provincial Offences Act lets municipalities run their own provincial offences courts to handle matters like traffic tickets, bylaw infractions, and other non-criminal charges. The underlying Highway Traffic Act rules that define speeding, careless driving, and similar offences are identical across the province — but the local court location, mailing address, and payment process are set by each municipality, so what applies in Ottawa won’t necessarily apply elsewhere in Ontario.
Ottawa's Provincial Offences Court Office
The City of Ottawa's Provincial Offences Court Office operates out of the Mary Pitt Centre at 100 Constellation Drive, open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., according to the City of Ottawa's website. General questions can be directed to the city's 3-1-1 line, and 3-1-1 agents can answer many provincial offences questions directly rather than transferring every call to the court office.
Paying a ticket
Ottawa lists dedicated pages for paying different ticket types — a general page for "other" provincial offence tickets and a separate page specifically for speed camera tickets — both reachable through ottawa.ca. In-person and mail payments are accepted at the Provincial Offences Court Offices, and the city notes that payment is credited based on when it’s received and processed, not the date a cheque is postmarked, so mailing close to a deadline carries some risk.
Speed camera tickets are a separate stream
Like several other large Ontario municipalities, Ottawa operates automated speed enforcement cameras in community safety zones. Because these tickets go to the registered vehicle owner rather than a specific driver, they're handled through their own dedicated payment page rather than being identical in process to an officer-issued Highway Traffic Act ticket, even though both ultimately route through the same provincial offences court system.
