Ontario Licence Suspension Risk Calculator

Get a general sense of how close a ticket or driving record might bring you to a demerit-point licence suspension. This is an estimate for educational purposes only and does not predict what the Ministry of Transportation or a court will actually do.

This tool gives a general sense of how close a given demerit-point total sits to the thresholds that can trigger a warning letter, interview, or suspension in Ontario. It's meant for drivers who already have a rough sense of their current or projected point total and want context for what that number generally means, not as a substitute for checking your official driving record.

How the estimate works

The calculator compares a point total you enter against the general threshold bands described on our Warning Letters and Interviews page — for example, 6 points can trigger a warning letter for a fully licensed driver, with escalating consequences at higher totals, and lower thresholds apply to novice G1/G2 drivers under our novice-driver escalation rules. It only reasons about demerit-point accumulation; it has no way to know about suspensions triggered by something other than points.

What this tool can't tell you

A licence can be suspended for reasons entirely separate from demerit-point accumulation — a roadside stunt-driving suspension, a court-ordered suspension following a conviction, or an administrative suspension tied to an unresolved fine, for example. This calculator can't estimate risk from any of those paths; see Ontario Licence Suspensions for the fuller picture of how a suspension can happen. It also can't confirm your actual current point total — only an official driving record can do that.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this calculator know my actual demerit-point total?

No. You enter a point total yourself; the calculator doesn't look up your official record. To confirm your actual total, see our guide on checking your Ontario driving record.

Are the thresholds different for novice drivers?

Yes, generally lower thresholds apply to G1 and G2 drivers than to fully licensed drivers. See our novice-driver escalation rules page.

Can a licence be suspended even with a low point total?

Yes — some offences (like stunt driving) carry an immediate roadside suspension regardless of accumulated points, and court-ordered suspensions can follow a single serious conviction. See Ontario Licence Suspensions.
